Bio
Russell Dritz began writing music in 2011, shortly after a friend passed away from pancreatic cancer. Despite not having a country radio station where he lived in New York, Russell had a love for country music and was inspired by his friend’s motto, “Walk It Off”. It sounded like the title of a country song and led him to try songwriting to honor his friend and her family while raising awareness for cancer research.
Ten years later, Russell’s songs “Chasing Her Racing Heart” and “Where There’s Smoke” have been recognized in NSAI’s Top 40, with numerous other songs recommended to publishers by NSAI. Most recently, Russell’s song “The Devil’s a Liar” tied for third place in the 22nd Annual NSAI Song Contest presented by The Bluebird Cafe and CMT.
His writing caught the attention of country artists and Nashville publishers. As a result, Russell has written with several rising artists including Schmitty, Brandon Davis, Ava Paige, Brittany Moore and many others during the past couple of years. He loves working with artists to write songs that are meaningful to them. According to him, the most rewarding part of writing is seeing an artist light up about an idea and bringing it to life in an unexpected way.
Russell is constantly trying to improve his craft, studying songs, songwriters and artists. He often quotes valuable advice he has gotten through the years from writers including Eric Paslay, Bob DiPiero, Don Schlitz and CJ Solar. In every write, he remembers his NSAI roots - “It all begins with a song”.
